I started writing down my dreams about 7 years ago. By now, I’ve collected a few hundred of them in the notes app on my phone. Some are funny, some scary or sad, but many are just gibberish. What fascinates me about dreams is that you have no control over them. People or situations I’ve long forgotten about, or maybe tried to forget, suddenly reappear in my dreams. In a way, writing them down feels therapeutic.
Most dreams feel too intimate to share, but here are some entertaining ones:
21st July, 2019:
I’m sitting in front of a screen, connected live to a dentist who examines my teeth through a camera. Somehow, there are also tools he can remotely control. He applies that dye that makes plaque visible, and it turns out I have a lot of plaque, but also I haven’t brushed my teeth.
16th February, 2020:
Bill Gates is sitting across from me, and he’s preparing some kind of presentation on his laptop. In my dream, I’m not sure whether it’s Bill Gates or Steve Jobs, so I Google photos of both to make sure.
27th October, 2020:
I’ve been sent to prison for two years. It’s actually not that bad, you’re allowed to use your phone, there’s a nice kitchen and a park. My parents come to visit. They’re quite pleased with the facility.
27th December, 2020:
I’m in a club, about to start my DJ set. Other DJs want me to play their tracks and promote them, but I don’t want to. Before my set, I have to give a PowerPoint presentation about the tracks and artists I’m going to play.
2nd September, 2021:
I got a frog as a pet from my parents. It’s jumping around a lot, and I run after it. Eventually, I manage to catch it, but I hurt it a little. I apologise, and quickly put it into a box. The frog can talk and complains a lot. Later, I forgot about the frog. When I remember again, it’s in a bag with barely any air. I’m scared it might be dead, but then I see the bag moving. I take it out, and it complains that I drank all the oat milk.
