West Melbourne is a suburb caught between the past and the present. The passage of time is subtle, almost invisible until you stop to notice it. Remnants of the past linger in the neon glow of an old sign, in the hand-painted lettering on a shopfront, in the quiet corners of a changing city.

Gone, West is a series endeavouring to capture the fleeting beauty of the in-between: the moment before the last traces of an era fade completely. Once they’re gone, all that remains is memory—and the nostalgia that fills the spaces they leave behind.

Nostalgia has a powerful way of shaping our perceptions, romanticising even the most ordinary scenes. It isn’t just about longing for the past—it’s about recognising its presence in the now. These relics are not just reminders of what once was; they are proof that time doesn’t erase everything. Instead, it leaves traces, small and persistent, waiting to be seen.

Through this series, I invite viewers to slow down and notice the details that often fade into the background. Because even in the fading, there is beauty.
