Vallis Alps is the brainchild of Parissa Tosif and David Ansari, an Australian synthpop duo of serious talent.

Rising to fame with their single “Young” in 2015 which is now nearing 71 million streams on Spotify the two have gone on to release a slew of EPs and perform 40 sold-out tours across the US, UK, Europe and Australia. On top of that, Vallis Alps has crafted remixes for artists such as Troye Sivan and Matt Maeson.

Just a fortnight ago, Vallis Alps gave us Nothing More Than Human, a gloriously meditative EP that walks a tightrope between their musical gifts as individuals and as a collective. Be sure to stream that in your own time.

Today, we’re humbled to have these two sharing songs they’ve gravitated towards lately. Club records often dominate our TROVE series so it’s great to have Parissa and David picking songs from rap, alternative and world zones.

TROVE 008 starts now.

1. hanbee | “strange”

hanbee is one of my favourite new finds, I could listen to this song for hours, it’s so beautiful and feels like it can accompany any moment of the day. Also adore the sax solo.

2. serpentwithfeet | “This Hill”

This is an older song from serpentwith feet, but it has resurfaced into regular rotation for me because I’ve been obsessed with unique vocal parts and mixes and this definitely has one.

3. breathe. | “I Did This”

Every breathe. track is a masterclass in worldbuilding — and with every track they release, their world becomes more noir, more mysterious, and more beautiful. “I Did This” is the latest in a discography of 3am-ready, remember-and-regret anthems, somehow toeing the line between being mysterious and being totally honest.

4. Karim Ziad | “Sandiya”

Sandiya is such a fascinating song — the off-kilter, swinging rhythm of the finger cymbals is such a fascinating characteristic of North African music that doesn’t exist as much in music I listen to on the daily. I’m so into it!

5. 1010benja | “Peacekeeper”

1010benja is absurdly talented and still goofy enough to write raps like this, and Lido has been one of the most understated and innovative producers for a decade. The collaboration is so good.
