That sense of warmth and contentment, the kind that hits in the middle of a buzzing dinner party surrounded by your nearest and dearest. That’s the mood Owelu Dreamhouse’s newest track “Tourist” manages to capture.
Hailing from Melb/Naarm, Owelu Dreamhouse brings together vocalist Nkechi Anele and multi-instrumentalist Nic Ryan-Glenie. If those names sound familiar, it’s because the pair were key members of Saskwatch, a beloved outfit that’s graced stages from Glastonbury and Edinburgh Fringe to Splendour in the Grass. In a touching ode to family origins, the Owelu name is a play on Nkechi’s grandmother’s village in Nigeria, Owaelu.
Their first jam for 2025 leaps off with clean drum hits and cheery horns, Nkechi’s honeyed vocals riding thermals as she taps into the rush of travel, then compares it to feeling like a fish out of water in her hometown. Speaking on the record, she says:
