I’ve always been a fan of multi-textured, immersive dance music—the kind of audio that seems to have as many layers as puff pastry.

That’s why I noticed Joe Burrows, aka Kasse’s new single, “Over Me.” The song reminds me of a message beamed into the sky, letting other life forms know that we mean them no harm. Founded on warm pads and a punchy kick drum, the track then finds its pocket thanks to a resampled melody and astral key arrangements. From there, playful female vocal chops, a signature in Kasse’s productions, soon come into play.

As Joe says, “I love to see how I can make these into melodies of their own and let the listener decide what they’re hearing in terms of the female singing”.

Growing up in a tiny village surrounded by fertile countryside, Joe strives to give his music a “natural presence.” Although all the sounds on “Over Me” are electronically programmed, the track has an earthy feel—think of a hike through a rainforest you’ve never laid eyes on.

Joe first caught the club bug thanks to illegal raves in the fields and forests where they lived. Because their community was small and close-knit, the bug quickly spread to all their friends, and before long, everyone was consumed by drum and bass and techno.

Without the prowess of artists like Ramadanman, Joy Orbison, DJ Koze, and Gold Panda, the Kasse project would never have existed. Thankfully, we can bask in their sonics for years to come, starting with the beautiful “Over Me.” Stream it below.
