When I think of Daniel Avery, I think of powerful, precision-built techno. But on his seventh studio album, Tremor (out via Domino Recording Co), the UK producer veers into rock and alternative territory, pulling in some of the best in the business to help bring it to life. I’m talking Oasis bassist Andy Bell, The Kills’ Alison Mosshart, Art School Girlfriend, bdrmm, yeule and more.

Track five, “New Life,” featuring Irish-Malaysian songstress yuné pinku, is my pick of the litter — hardly shocking, given it’s one of the album’s more club-leaning numbers. Opening with synths that recall an aeroplane’s wheels leaving the tarmac and breakbeat percussion, the song quickly takes to the skies.
Throughout, yuné’s airy, distorted voice weaves through the dense soundscape. She sings in a state of apparent conflict about where things stand in her relationship and if it’s wiser to grit her teeth and bear it or step away altogether.
