Waking Life is everything an electronic festival should be.
It happens around a lake in Crato, a sleepy corner of Portugal’s Alentejo, and for six days a year that lake becomes the centre of a small, surreal and temporary world. These photos were taken across the last two editions (my third and fourth visits). If you asked me what happened in each year outside the main highlights, I honestly couldn’t tell you.
It all just blends into one long stretch of heat, dust, water and sound, and I think that’s the point.
Temporary, but familiar too. Much of what gets built stays or comes back, repurposed for the following edition. Returning feels less like arriving at a festival and more like coming back to somewhere you know all too well.
